As China’s recent push for dominance in the South China and East China seas gets more attention, the quiet contest for influence in the Indian Ocean is being watched carefully from Tokyo to Washington, D.C. At first glance, it looks like a diplomatic love-fest. But not all is hunky-dory in the Indo-China relations even as Chinese President Xi Jinping has left Delhi in an atmosphere of mutual understanding and a slew of pacts. Amid bonhomie, there is the struggle in the Indian Ocean and of course there are issues relating to Chumar and Ladakh.
